HfG-archiv: no name design - 11.02.2023 — 14.05.2023

Ostern - 04.2023

“When it comes to Easter, celebrated on the first Sunday after the first full moon after the vernal equinox, the symbolic story of the death of a god (or sun/son) and springtime rebirth is a tale as old as time. The spring equinox was recognized by various pagan cults as a festival marking the resurrection of light triumphing over darkness and the fresh fecundity of the land. One such festival was Eostre, which celebrated a northern goddess of the same name. Her symbol was the prolific hare representing fertility.”

“Ardmair Bay is located three miles north of Ullapool on the Northwestern coast of the wild Scottish Highlands. The windswept, rocky beach curves across the bay and looks out over Isle Martin on the horizon. For a truly unique experience, try swimming late one midsummer’s night at Ardmair Bay, when the sun stays high and light well into the late evening.”

The Scottish Highlands and the Appalachians are the same mountain range, once connected as the Central Pangean Mountains. Remnants of this massive mountain range include the Appalachian Mountains of North America, the Little Atlas of Morocco, Africa, Ireland, much of the Scottish Highlands and part of Scandinavia. These are the oldest mountains in the world. https://www.facebook.com/karldietz40/posts/4331017383619218

Siccar Point One of the worlds most important geological sites. Situated on the coast south and east of Edinburgh, (less that a one hour drive.) It was visited in 1788 by James Hutton, ..." He devised a theory of Deep Time; "No Vestige of a beginning no prospect of an end" This unconformity shown in the annotated photograph represents a period of time when the older eroded Silurian Rocks had Devonian sediments deposit on them The unconformity represents a time period of 65million years. The lower Silurian Rocks are called Greywacky sandstones, laid down under the sea. Often by an underwater landslide as the grains are irregularity sorted. The Devonian red sandstones are arid Desert sandstones (red with iron oxide )

The Central Pangei Mountains were a large mountain range in the central part of the Pangea supercontinent that stretched across the continent from northeast to southwest during the Carboniferous, Permian Triassic periods. For this reason the Scottish Highlands, Appalachians and the Atlas are the same mountain range, once connected as the central Pangean Mountains. https://vividmaps.com/central-pangean-mountains/

Killochan Castle is a substantial, category A listed historic tower house located in South Ayrshire on the north side of the fertile valley of the Girvan Water and is one of the finest fortified houses in South Scotland.

It was first built in 1338 as a four-storey tower house with impregnably thick walls. A date stone above the front door shows that in 1586, Ihone Cathcart added a wing to the Castle making it L-shaped with an additional round tower built on the external angle and a smaller rectangular turret in the re-entrant angle. The Castle was the property of the Carleton branch of the Cathcart family for over five hundred years until it was sold in 1954.

The Castle, together with all the associated properties within the grounds which extend in total to 166 acres, were subject to an extensive restoration project from 2014 – 2016 transforming it back into one of the county's most imposing country houses.

The Castle now boasts spectacular reception rooms which are complimented by a number of spacious bedrooms and extremely well appointed bathrooms. The Gatehouse by the Castle offers separate guest or staff accommodation as do a further two cottages within the grounds. Killochan is readily accessible being a short drive from both Prestwick and Glasgow Airports.
