http://www.digizeitschriften.de/oai2/?573062
da steht dann aber: The request could not be completed due to the following error or errors. Error Code: badVerb The verb: NOVERB provided in the request is illegal.

Die "Fröschner" erschien im Zentralblatt 101 (1987).

Zentralblatt für Bibliothekswesen:
direkt via base: Treffer, darunter das einschlägige Heft 101 (1987).
Lieferant ist Göttingen,
http://resolver.sub.uni-goettingen.de/purl?PPN338182551_0101
führt dann zu
http://www.digizeitschriften.de/dms/toc/?PPN=PPN338182551_0101

base direkt: kein Treffer!

Fazit:

A bookshelf the size of the world

Inside the vision for the largest library in history

As the digitization of human culture accelerates, publishers and academics have had to begin addressing a basic question: Who will control knowledge in the future?

So far, the most likely answer to that question has been a private company: Google. Since 2004 Google Books has been scanning books and putting them online; the company says it has already scanned more than 15 million. Google estimates there are about 130 million books in the world, and by 2020, it plans to have scanned them all.

Now, however, a competitor may be emerging. Last year, Robert Darnton, a cultural historian and director of Harvard University’s library system, began to raise the prospect of creating a public digital library. This library would include the digitized collections of the country’s great research institutions, but it would also bring in other media - video, music, film - as well as the collection of Web pages maintained by the Internet Archive. …

An Openly searchable and navigable network of bibliographic information and associated knowledge representations, a Bibliographic Knowledge Network, across all branches of Science, Technology and Medicine, has been designed and initiated. For this large scale endeavour, the engagement and cooperation of the multiple stakeholders in STM publishing - authors, librarians, publishers and administrators - is sought. BibJSON, a simple structured text data format (informed by BibTex, Dublin Core, PRISM and JSON) suitable for both serialisation and storage of large quantities of bibliographic data is presented.

DRIVER

DRIVER has a clear vision: All research institutions in Europe and worldwide make all their research publications openly accessible through institutional repositories. The vision follows the Berlin Declaration, which called in October 2003 for ‘free and unrestricted access to sciences and human knowledge representation worldwide’. Initiated by the internationally renowned German research organisation the Max-Planck-Society, and signed by many international research organisations and institutes, the Berlin Declaration has set a political statement. In building a sustainable infrastructure for scientific repositories, DRIVER brings to this statement the reality of scholarly communication in the future.

Libraries have traditionally been central providers of research information infrastructure. What is changing and needs to change in the digital age? Librarians need to facilitate effective access to the whole range of information available on the Web. Library information systems await further technical and functional development, and search engines will play a central role. Libraries must collaborate with partners from the grid and e-science communities, as well as with commercial partners. The role of the librarian will become that of a developer, provider or agent. In order to facilitate the academic process, libraries must carefully observe the needs of their users, whether that involves information discovery, information management and processing, or scholarly communication and publication.

[Engl. This article describes the development of a modern search enginebased information retrieval setting from its envisioning through to its technological realization. The author takes up the thread of an earlier article on this subject (ZfBB 51 (2004), 5/6), this time from a technical viewpoint. After presenting the conceptual considerations of the initial stages, this article deals principally with the technological aspects of the project Zusammenfassung:

This article describes the development of a modern search enginebased information retrieval setting from its envisioning through to its technological realization. The author takes up the thread of an earlier article on this subject (ZfBB 51 (2004), 5/6), this time from a technical viewpoint. After presenting the conceptual considerations of the initial stages, this article deals principally with the technological aspects of the project Zusammenfassung:

[Dt. Übersetzung] Suchmaschinentechnologie und Digitale Bibliotheken - Von der Theorie zur Praxis This article describes the journey from the conception of and vision for a modern search-engine-based search environment to its technological realisation. In doing so, it takes up the thread of an earlier article on this subject, this time from a technical viewpoint. As well as presenting the conceptual considerations of the initial stages, this article will principally elucidate the technological aspects of this journey.

Will Google, Yahoo and Microsoft become the only avenues for accessing the world of knowledge in the year 2010? The author of this article makes the case for concerted action on the part of libraries which would lead to the creation of dependable, highquality search services for academic information for research and teaching via state-of-the-art search engine technology. The need for such a service has arisen from the numerical explosion of scientifically relevant documents that are often accessible only through the internet, but not (or not adequately) researchable through libraries’ information portals. This article describes the possibilities for libraries and other information providers to cooperate in a national and international context in order to construct an open, shared academic internet index which can be used in any local environment in modular format. It is noted that a user-friendly design of the new system will need to take into account the current, general internet search machines, which have achieved a high level of popularity and user acceptance within quite a short period of time. This article is the revised and elaborated version of a presentation that was delivered at the invitation of the American Digital Library Federation (DLF) at their Spring Forum meeting in New Orleans (http://www.diglib.org/forums/Spring2004/springforum04abs.htm). It will be followed by "Search engine technology and digital libraries: Moving from theory to praxis" as a collaborative article from this author and Friedrich Summann, Head of IT at Bielefeld University Library. With the development of the World Wide Web, the "information search" has grown to be a significant business sector of a global, competitive and commercial market. Powerful players have entered this market, such as commercial internet search engines, information portals, multinational publishers and online content integrators. Will Google, Yahoo or Microsoft be the only portals to global knowledge in 2010? If libraries do not want to become marginalized in a key area of their traditional services, they need to acknowledge the challenges that come with the globalisation of scholarly information, the existence and further growth of the academic internet.
