Zusammenfassung: Die RDA (Resource Description and Access) sind der neue inter­na­tio­nale Standard für die Erschließung von Ressourcen in Bibliotheken, Archiven und Museen. Die Einführung die­ses Standards im deutsch­spra­chi­gen Raum wurde vom Standardisierungsausschuss im Mai 2012 beschlos­sen. Sowohl inter­na­tio­nal als auch natio­nal haben sich Gremien rund um RDA eta­bliert, die in die­sem Beitrag vor­ge­stellt wer­den. Darüber hin­aus wer­den der aktu­elle Stand und der Zeitplan des koope­ra­ti­ven RDA-Projekts in Deutschland, Öster­reich und Teilen der Schweiz vor­ge­stellt. Abschließend wer­den Auswirkungen von RDA auf die prak­ti­sche Katalogisierungsarbeit beschrieben.

Abstract: RDA - deve­lop­ment of stan­dards for the 21st cen­tury (trans­la­tion of the title). RDA (Resource Description and Access) is the new inter­na­tio­nal cata­lo­guing stan­dard for libra­ries, archi­ves and muse­ums. In May 2012, the Committee for Library Standards pas­sed a reso­lu­tion to intro­duce RDA in German-speaking coun­tries. Some of the dif­fe­rent bodies, com­mit­tees and working groups on inter­na­tio­nal and natio­nal levels enga­ged in the imple­men­ta­tion of RDA are por­trayed in this arti­cle. Furthermore, the sta­tus quo and the plans of the coope­ra­tive RDA pro­ject in Germany, Austria and parts of Switzerland are pre­sen­ted. Finally, some of the prac­tical con­se­quen­ces of cata­lo­guing accor­ding to RDA are highlighted.

Dublin Core in Multiple Languages: Esperanto, Interlingua, or Pidgin?

Abstract The experience of artificial languages like Esperanto suggests they need good governance to control divergence in usage, but flexibility to evolve and grow. Language engineers have neglected to consider pidgins --- simplified hybrids invented spontaneously by speakers of different languages. If Dublin Core is pidgin metadata, perhaps it needs an interlingua --- a language-neutral set of elements mediating between richer sets --- for the collective negotiation of meanings and for managing the inevitable tension between simplicity and complexity. Adaptations of Dublin Core in languages other than English would not be mere translations of a canon, but equal participants in an ongoing revision of that canon.
