Eurozine is the network of Europe’s leading cultural journals, facilitating the exchange of texts, ideas and knowledge between 84 publications from 33 countries. In its online magazine (www.eurozine.com), Eurozine publishes original articles and translations from partner journals and other sources for an international readership.

Eurozine is currently seeking an Editor-in-chief to join its team in Vienna.

The Editor-in-chief will be responsible for all content published by Eurozine on its website and in social media and will oversee Eurozine’s editorial staff. Together with the international Editorial Board she/he will set an editorial strategy and be responsible for its implementation. The nature of Eurozine as a network and cultural publication in its own right requires a strategy that allows for representation of different perspectives coming from the network partners, their contextualization in current European/international debates and the setting of specific focal points.

Together with the Managing Director, the Editor-in-chief will actively represent Eurozine externally to the public and cooperation partners, and internally to the network partners; she/he will also contribute to fundraising. She/he will conceptualize the annual network conference and other events organized by Eurozine.

Die Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn sucht für das Institut für Archäologie und Kulturanthropologie, Abteilung Kulturanthropologie/Volkskunde, zum 1. Januar 2017 befristet auf drei Jahre mit 75% der regelmäßigen Arbeitszeit

zwei Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiter/-innen (Predoc).

Sie bearbeiten in enger Zusammenarbeit mit der Forscher/-innengruppe ein eigenes Forschungsprojekt im von der DFG geförderten Projekt "Partizipative Entwicklung ländlicher Regionen. Alltagskulturelle Aushandlungen des LEADER-Programms der Europäischen Union". Das Projekt untersucht aus kulturanthropologischer Perspektive, wie das EU-Förderprogramm LEADER für den ländlichen Raum durch lokale Akteure umgesetzt wird, wie BewohnerInnen an der Umsetzung partizipieren und wie sich die Maßnahmen auf die alltägliche Lebenswelt der lokalen Bevölkerung auswirken. Ihr Forschungsprojekt behandelt dabei im weiteren Sinne eines der folgenden Themenfelder:

· Ökologische Nachhaltigkeit – z.B. Regionalförderungsprojekte zur nachhaltigen Mobilität, zum alltäglichen Energieverbrauch oder auch zur ökologische Revitalisierung;

· Demographischer Wandel – z.B. Regionalförderungsprojekte zur Verbesserung der Mobilität, zur Entwicklung generationenübergreifender Treffpunkte bis hin zur Integration von Migrant/-innen.

Die Forschung findet in erster Linie in Nordrhein-Westfalen statt. Die Promotion im Rahmen des Forschungsprojekts ist gerne möglich.

Heute hört man auch aus offiziellem Munde, dass sich die Europäische Union 60 Jahre nach ihrer Gründung in einer "existentiellen Krise" (Jean-Claude Juncker) befinde. Als Beleg wird in der Regel der Brexit oder die Unfähigkeit, solidarische Lösungen in der Flüchtlingspolitik zu entwickeln, angeführt. Doch natürlich liegen die Ursachen tiefer. Gemeinsamer Markt und Euro-Währung haben etwa zu extremen ökonomischen Ungleichgewichten zwischen den Kernländern und den Staaten der südlichen Peripherie geführt. Diesen wurde durch die ihnen diktierte Austeritätspolitik die Verarmung breiter Bevölkerungsteile und eine Jugendarbeitslosigkeit von bis zu 50 Prozent aufgezwungen. Kein Wunder, dass die Attraktivität des europäischen Projektes abnimmt. Die meisten dieser Probleme wurzeln darin, dass sich der europäische Vereinigungsprozess zwar äußerlich als ein wertegeleitetes Friedensprojekt verstand, die EU in der Praxis im Grunde aber nie etwas anderes war als ein von einer Brüsseler Technokratie regulierter gemeinsamer Markt. Da Erfolge auf diesem von der ›Wettbewerbsfähigkeit‹ kapitalistischer Staaten bestimmt sind, geraten Löhne, Sozialausgaben oder Steuern als ›Kostenfaktoren‹ in einen Abwärtssog, der durch die Anpassungszwänge in der Währungsunion noch verstärkt wird.

Der Ausweg aus dieser Konstruktion institutionell verankerter neoliberaler Politik ist schwer zu bestimmen und auch innerhalb der gesellschaftlichen und politischen Linken umstritten. Die einen plädieren für einen EU-Austritt oder zumindest für eine Lockerung der Integration. Vor allem der Austritt aus dem Euro oder dessen Ersetzung durch ein System fester, aber politisch anpassbarer Wechselkurse wird als notwendige Bedingung angesehen, um einzelnen Nationalstaaten mehr wirtschaftspolitischen Spielraum zu verschaffen. Andere betonen, dass ein Exit im Sinne einer Renationalisierung für keines der globalen Probleme (Klimawandel, Migration, Terrorismus), mit denen heutige Gesellschaften konfrontiert sind, eine Lösung wäre und rechten, nationalistischen Kräften in die Hände spielen würde. "Mehr Europa, aber anders!" ist daher eine verbreitete Losung, mit der die Perspektive einer demokratisch-föderalistischen europäischen Sozialunion bzw. einer politischen Union eröffnet werden soll. Hierzu wäre auf alle Fälle eine europaweite Veränderung gesellschaftlicher Kräfteverhältnisse erforderlich, um die bisher in der Marktunion untergeordneten Interessen der beherrschten sozialen Gruppen politisch zur Geltung zu bringen.

Der Kampf für die notwendige soziale und demokratische Neugründung Europas kann nur auf lokaler, regionaler und nationaler Ebene der jeweiligen Einzelstaaten beginnen. Aber er muss von vornherein auf die grenzüberschreitende Kooperation sozialer Initiativen, Bewegungen und Gewerkschaften ausgerichtet sein. Dieser Weg ist schwierig und umstritten. Daher bemühen wir uns in diesem Studienheft, eine breite Palette dieser Diskussionen und Positionen abzubilden.
