Recorded cases of Esperanto-speaking families are known since 1919, and in nearly all of the approximately 350 families documented, the language is spoken to the children by the father. -	Eric Carle, the beloved author and illustrator of many classic children's books including "The Very Hungry Caterpillar," has died at the age of 91. Carle's vibrantly colored collage illustrations appeared in more than 70 books, many of which he also wrote; more than 145 million copies of his books have been sold around the world. His most popular book "The Very Hungry Caterpillar," first published in 1969, has sold 50 million copies and been translated into 66 languages. In speaking once about the long-time appeal of his most famous book, Carle said: "I think it is a book of hope. Children need hope. You, little insignificant caterpillar, can grow up into a beautiful butterfly and fly into the world with your talent. Will I ever be able to do that? Yes, you will. I think that is the appeal of that book."
-	Carle was born in Syracuse, New York but spent much of his youth in his parents' native country of Germany, where he survived being conscripted by the German army at the age of 15 to dig trenches on the Siegfried line during World War II. He dreamed of returning home to the US one day and finally made it back to New York in 1952 with only $40 in his pocket. After spending years working in advertising as a graphic designer and art director, he first broke into children's literature when children's author Bill Martin Jr. liked an illustration Carle had created for an ad and invited him to collaborate. Their book, "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?" became a bestseller, and Carle soon began writing his own stories.

In my books, I try to counteract this fear, to replace it with a positive message," he said. "I believe that children are naturally creative and eager to learn. Dabei gerät jedoch leicht aus dem Blick, dass die in den Bibliotheken auftretenden Rechtsfragen erheblich vielschichtiger sind und nicht nur dem Urheber- oder digitalen Medienrecht entstammen. Im Rahmen der Vorlesung soll in einem Überblick die gesamte Bandbreite der für die Arbeit von Bibliotheken relevanten rechtlichen Themenfelder vorgestellt werden. Dabei wird nicht nur sichtbar, was zum Gegenstand der “juristischen Bildung" des Bibliothekars gehören sollte. Es wird auch die Frage aufgeworfen, ob es "Bibliotheksrecht" als eigenständiges Rechtsgebiet überhaupt gibt, geben kann oder geben sollte. Vielleicht ist "Bibliotheksrecht" ja nur die schlichte Bezeichnung für eine mehr oder weniger zufällige Ansammlung bibliotheksbezogener Rechtsprobleme, der ein übergreifendes und disziplinbildendes Erkenntnisinteresse aber fehlt.	+
