The German copyist and printer, Erhard Ratdolt, worked for a decade in Venice, beginning in the year 1476. He printed a number of editions that were notable for their remarkable beauty and precision, as well as for a series of significant innovations in the craft. Ratdolt was responsible for the first title page, the use of an innovative design of geometric diagrams, the two-colour printing of astronomical illustrations, as well as the frequent use of frames and woodcut initials on a black background. A true artist in the field of typography, Erhard Ratdolt was likely the first specialized printer of scientific texts! Next Sunday, March 14th, join us for a special online talk by Dr. Edoardo R. Barbieri and Dr. Luca Rivali of the Catholic University of Milan, who will examine the life and work of this extraordinary figure in the history of the modern book. "The Dawn of the Modern Book: Erhard Ratdolt, a Printer in Venice (1476-1486)" Tune in via Zoom! You can register for this online event, free of charge, by clicking the link below. Sunday, March 14th, 19:00 (GMT + 2) Israel time (please remember to adjust the time of day to your own location)
