The DOI Handbook

(Version 4.4.1, released 5 October 2006) is the primary source of information about the DOI System. It discusses the components and operation of the system, and provides a central point of reference for technical information. The Handbook is updated regularly. The main chapters <http://www.doi.org/handbook_2000/toc.html> of the Handbook give a complete explanation of the DOI System. The Handbook moves from an overview, through an explanation of each of the components of the system, to detail on how applications are built and the operation of the system through IDF and its Registration Agencies. The Appendices <http://www.doi.org/handbook_2000/toc.html#app1> provide detailed technical documentation and supporting information which is not necessary for most users. An Adobe Acrobat version of the Handbook (doi:10.1000/186 <http://dx.doi.org/10.1000/186>) is available and recommended for printing. The IDF has launched the shortDOI Service

, a public service, open to anyone, that creates shortcuts to DOI names, which are often very long strings. The service creates short handles of the form '10/abcde' and enables short HTTP URIs of the form 'http://doi.org ... /abcde' that are ideal for use in email, blogs, mobile messaging and more. The IDF runs two services based on handles: the DOI Service, and the shortDOI™ Service.

"This article examines co-authorship networks of researchers publishing in Electronic Markets?The International Journal of Networked Business (EM). The authors visualize the co-authorship network and provide descriptive statistics regarding the degree to which researchers are embedded in the co-authorship network. They develop and test seven hypotheses associating the researchers? embeddedness in the co-authorship network with the number of the researchers? citations. Results indicate that author who publish co-authored articles in EM have their EM articles (whether co-authored or not) cited more frequently than those who publish EM articles only in their own names, and that the more they co-author the more they are cited because they are located in the center of a co-authorship network. "
