Lee Miller produced some of the most powerful photographs seen this century, ie from portraits of her friends such as Pablo Picasso - Beginning her own studio in Paris with artist Man Ray, she went on to work with Vogue, and in France, Egypt, and New York, being best remembered for her witty Surrealist images.
Lee Miller’s legacy consists of over 60,000 images & documents. The Lee Miller Archives (LMA) houses a diverse collection of images, all available for supply and reproduction. From Surrealist photography and Vogue fashion editorials to World War II photojournalism and portraits of the some of the most important figures of the 20th Century, explore the online Picture Library. Als Frau mittleren Alters kämpft Lee Miller (Kate Winslet) mit aller Kraft dagegen an, lediglich als ehemaliges Model und Muse für den Avantgarde-Fotografen Man Ray (Sean Duggan) in Erinnerung zu bleiben. Sie will mit der Liebe ihres Lebens Kunsthändler Roland Penrose (Alexander Skarsgård) zusammen sein und zieht mit ihm in dessen Heimatstadt London, während die Nazis bereits ein europäisches Land nach dem anderen überfallen. Miller heuert bei der britischen Vogue zunächst als Modefotografin an, hat jedoch schon bald wieder genug davon. Denn auch dieser Job wird von Männern diktiert, Frauen sollen gefälligst ihre Pflicht erfüllen. Sie will raus aus diesem System – und ausgerechnet als Kriegsfotografin an die Front. Mithilfe ihrer Chefredakteurin Audrey Withers (Andrea Riseborough) stellt sie einen entsprechenden Antrag – der jedoch abgewiesen wird, weil sie eine Frau ist. Die Amerikaner nehmen sie jedoch mit offenen Armen. Doch der Weg alleine in den Krieg ist nicht gerade ungefährlich…
