19 Jahre VAB am 22.08.2018

Die Virtuelle Allgemeinbibliothek, kurz VAB, ist eine kommentierte Linksammlung mit 5.000 Dokumenten, die Dipl.-Bibl. Ingrid Strauch am 22.08.1999 begann.

Mit anderen Worten: Die VAB ist eine fachlich und privat betreute virtuelle OPL, in lang: one person library.

Gesammelt werden Links zu digitalen Veröffentlichungen (Texte, Textsammlungen, Datenbanken, Verzeichnisse, ...), bei denen sie von einer längerfristigen Nachfrage ausgeht.

Die Links werden zusammen mit einem Abstract in eine Systematik eingebaut und mit Schlagwort-, Autoren- und Institutionenregister inhaltlich erschlossen. Als interne Suchmaschine nutzt die VAB die Google custom search engine (Google CSE).

Die Zielgruppen der VAB sind Schüler, Studenten und bildungsinteressierte Erwachsene.

Sehenswert ist die VAB-photothek mit eigenen Fotos. Etliche Fotos sind auch auf Flickr oder Pinterest online.

Ingrid Strauch kann in die VAB ihre Erfahrungen mit der Datenbank DOBI einbringen, die sie bis zum Jahr 2000 beim Dt. Bibl.Institut DBI in Berlin betreute.

Die VAB ist seit 2011 auch im Web 2.0 und den Sozialen Netzwerken (Facebook, Twitter und Google+) aktiv. Seit 2015 mit einem eigenen Blog per wordpress.

Er bietet einen raschen, einfachen und umfassenden Zugang zu wissenschaftlicher Information in der Schweiz an. an electronic, multidisciplinary peer-reviewed open access journal that publishes original research articles as well as review articles in all areas of indigenous knowledge from a global perspective. The journal is published twice yearly by the Pennsylvania State University Libraries, and is co-sponsored by the Penn State Libraries and the Penn State Interinstitutional Center for Indigenous Knowledge (ICIK).

Indigenous knowledge is an emerging area of study that focuses on the ways of knowing, seeing, and thinking that are passed down orally from generation to generation. These ways of understanding reflect thousands of years of experimentation and innovation in topics like agriculture, animal husbandry, child rearing practices, education systems, medicine, and natural resource management—among many other categories.

These ways of knowing are particularly important in the era of globalization, a time in which indigenous knowledge as intellectual property is taking new significance in the search for answers to many of the world’s most vexing problems: disease, famine, ethnic conflict, and poverty. Indigenous knowledge has value, not only for the culture in which it develops, but also for scientists and planners seeking solutions to community problems.
